L'ONDA
OBJECTIVE:
Document your personal experience with the E. & J. Gallo internship program by designing a wine packaging piece that speaks to what you have learned during the internship and who you are as a designer.
L'Onda (The Wave) is a physical embodiment of my adoration for the passion and power found in our oceans.
Verdicchio: A white wine grape found primarily in Italy's central region. The varietal pairs well with seafood which was well suited for the label I was creating.
Mood: Dark, dramatic, powerful.
Typefaces selected: Bembo + Gill Sans
I felt that in order to fully express the ocean's character I needed to venture to the source and capture it. I traveled to California's coast line city of Monterey where I took numerous photos of the water, trying different angles and perspectives. After reviewing the images, I decided on an aerial view taken from a dock.
FINAL LABEL + BOTTLE DESIGN
Label: Embossed lettering with a gloss varnish.
Bottle: Frosted finish to mimic salt weathering.
